Debbie’s granddaughters, Evelyn and Olivia, were among her favorite subjects to paint.
The inspiration for The Girls came from a candid photograph taken by Debbie’s daughter at the girls’ grandparents’ home in Florida. Evelyn and Olivia were sitting together on the couch watching television, dressed in matching dresses. Familiar details of the room — including a seashell pillow and patterned rug — became part of Debbie’s composition.
From that quiet family moment, Debbie created this large 60 × 42-inch oil painting. The Girls is both a family portrait and an affectionate record of two of the people Debbie most loved to paint.
